Through chan cultivation, we will see the brightness of the nature of our mind. Our mind nature is like a sun. It always exists in a place where there is no darkness and where there is no twilight. It is bright during the day; at night, it still exists there and does not disappear. All those clouds are one’s thoughts that acted like a cloudy day when sun is blocked. However, no matter how thick those clouds are, they will never block out the sun forever. Sun will exist and black clouds are only temporary hindrance that eventually cannot prevent sunlight from shining through.
Therefore, how does one support a delightful mind? Our mind should not pull away by thoughts. Yet, it is pulling away by senses that pick up our emotions. We need to achieve the states of mind by sensory grasping, sensing but not seeing, and sight but not dwelling. Then our body and mind will be unrestrained. Also, when our ears contact with outside, we immediately withdraw to lingting. Lingting is about listen carefully to your heart. Lingting is about let you return to your origin, to your original nature.
Our mind is like a bright light. Our awakening is like a lamp. This lamp does not extinguish and it becomes brighter through tranquility. Buddha Dharma is a method that escapes sufferings and be joyful. There are all kinds of transmigration: understanding transmigration, listening transmigration, thoughts transmigration, senses of sight,
sound, smell, taste and touch transmigration. Transmigration is about attachment to a certain thing that we choose to be unease. Once we are able to unburden ourselves, our internal mind becomes at ease. Our internal mind often falls under all kinds of illusions that arise, change, and decay. We felt a sense of gain and loss, moodiness and emotional. In there, we give birth to greed, anger, and ignorance that create morally degenerate types of changes. Our mind would be like a tar that sticks to anything and become attached to that thing. Therefore, we have annoyances and thoughts. So, how does mind become free? Let it not to attach and not to adhere but to really let the mind be mind and not to become a thing.
This is not something that can be solved in a day’s time. It requires observation in one’s daily life in order to perceive through meditation and to realize the fact from time to time. It would need at least ten years of hard work to break free from one’s norm of affiliated and depended behaviors. Only through chan cultivation can one overcome dependence to appearances. Our spiritual nature does not belong to the body nor does it belong to anything else. Because it is bright, spiritual, formless and shapeless, thus, it is a perpetual and ancient spiritual nature. It is also a molding that turns into something we attached. But, what about the time before that molding? Who am I? Therefore, chan cultivation is not about find a molding. By not finding which is the correct molding for each of us, then we can slowly disentangle ourselves from this entrapment.
We know that time is life; life is time. In order to survive, we need to work and to make money.
However, in the process of making money, we can easily become lost. How to be awakened and still making money? We do not depend on wealth, do not attach to any emotion, neither do we adhere to anger and hatred. Thus, the spiritual nature is not depending on something. I wish everyone could be more at peace, at ease, and be free.
I hope that everyone will take advantage of this method. If you are tired at work, you can take five or ten minute’s chan, which is also good. Moreover, do not forget to come back often participate Three Days Chan. Seven Days Chan can also be very attracting.
